A Selfish Pursuit On creative days I misplace the car keys, ignore ringing telephones and forget the milk I promised to pickup at the store. Out of my way, trivial matters. The Great Man is making art! You pray for such days. When you're lucky, you can transform a non-creative day into a creative one. You must clear your mind of mental clutter. Then get a stranglehold on those S.O.B.s, your internal editors. Sounds simple enough, but you can't will it. I trick myself with music. Dave Brubeck does wonders. I turn up "Balcony Rock" until it registers on the Richter Scale. Next thing I know, the paint is miraculously leaping off my brush and onto the canvas in all the right places. Please, do not disturb. < Back | Next > Return to Sketchbook Table of Contents |
