The Great Man
On creative days The Great Man misplaces the car keys, ignores ringing telephones . . . and forgets the milk he promised to pickup at the store. Out of the way trivial matters. The Great Man is making art! He prays for such days. When he's lucky he can transform a non-creative day into a creative one. He must clear his mind of mental clutter. Then get a stranglehold on those S.O.B.s, his internal editors. Sounds simple enough, but even The Great Man can't will it. Though sometimes he can trick himself with music. Dave Brubeck does wonders. He turns up "Balcony Rock" until it registers on the Richter Scale. Next thing he knows, the paint is miraculously leaping off his brush and onto the canvas in all the right places. The Great Man still has to pickup the milk. |
